Surrender is not easy, but it is a journey worth taking.

"Ultimately there is nothing I can tell you about surrender except Having nothing and wanting nothing; Not keeping score, Not trying to be richer, Not being afraid of losing; Not being particularly interested in our own personalities; Choosing to be happy, no matter what happens to us. These are some of the clues. The rest we learn with practice and grace." Swami Chetanananda     -- "Surrender is not about giving up. It's about letting go of control and trusting in the universe." In this quote, Swami Chetanananda talks about the importance of surrender. He says that surrender is not about giving up, but about letting go of control and trusting in the universe. This is a key concept in the yamas and niyamas, the first two limbs of Patanjali's eightfold path of yoga. The yamas are five ethical restraints, while the niyamas are five observances. One of the yamas is aparigraha, which means non-possessiveness. This means letting go of our attachment to material possessions and experiences. When we are attached to things, we are not truly free. We are constantly worried about losing what we have or not getting what we want. This can lead to a lot of stress and anxiety. Surrender is the ultimate act of aparigraha. When we surrender, we let go of our attachment to control and our need to be in charge. We trust that the universe has our best interests in mind and that everything is happening for a reason. This can be a difficult concept to grasp, but it is essential for living a happy and fulfilling life. Here are some tips for practicing surrender: Meditate regularly. Meditation can help you to quiet your mind and connect with your inner wisdom. When you are more mindful, you are less likely to be caught up in the ego's need for control. Practice gratitude. Taking time to appreciate the good things in your life can help you to let go of your attachment to material possessions and experiences. When you are grateful, you are more likely to focus on the present moment and less likely to worry about the future. Be open to change. The world is constantly changing, and so must we. If we are not open to change, we will always be fighting against the current. Surrender means accepting change and allowing it to flow through us. Surrender is not easy, but it is a journey worth taking. When we surrender, we open ourselves up to a new level of freedom and peace. We no longer have to worry about controlling everything, and we can trust that the universe has our best interests in mind.

Farewell 2022 *Here are some tips for setting and achieving your goals in 2023.

Dec 31, 2022Melanie Burgers

This time of year offers a certain sense of excitement along with a desire to checkin with my goals. Over the past few years I've been really good at writing down what I would like to work towards in the following year, and it's incredible to see how most of what I wrote down has *manifiested. From the days of "The Secret" I always hoped I could "dream things into being" and with enough praying and repetitive thought I hoped my deepest desires would be presented to me. However it wasn't until my 30's that I really understood how manifesting works. I've seen it work for me time and time again, so with the right recipe, you really can have most things your heart desires.  Of course goals are fluid and life changes, and human nature always seeks more, but therein lies the excitement. During the last few days of any year, it's time to recap, regroup, and readjust goals and dreams.  Below is a breakdown of what I found to be the most important steps that ultimately led me to each of my yearly goals: 1. Take action. Dreams and goals will be achieved with effort and goal setting.  2. Be clear with your words. Handle important conversations with care. Make sure what you are saying is exactly what you mean so it can be received correctly. Don't let miscommunication or not speaking up be your downfall.  3. Be yourself. You won't lose real friends, real opportunities or real relationships by doing this.    4. Take responsibility for your life, happiness and good fortune. Surround yourself with people who lift you up and encourage your continual growth but don't depend on anyone for your ultimate successes.

Honouring your menstrual cycle.

Oct 25, 2022Melanie Burgers

As I start the first phase of my cycle today I am aiming to be more conscious of my body's internal wisdom. We are so programmed to go-go-go, drink more coffee, eat more chocolate, grab food on the go, and crash at night within seconds of hitting the pillow. At the start of my cycle today, I am challenging myself to listen to what my body needs. This is what I am aiming for: Regular work breaks - every 90 mins or when needed. Journal - for the next 28 days take note of emotions, thoughts, self-care, and interactions. Self-care - self-massage (gua sha, body brush), epsom salt baths, essential oils diffuser, slow, gentle yoga, feet on the grass, find a space to listen to nature's music.  Whole-foods: Anything that is available and fresh.  Hydrate: Herbal teas, water, smoothies

Moon Phases

Dec 30, 2020Melanie Burgers

"And like the moon, we must go through phases of emptiness to feel full again."Last night was a spectacular full moon, therefore the perfect time for this topic. This parallel/metaphor has gotten me through some of my darkest times. When aspects of my life are at a lull or I'm dealing with stronger emotions like loneliness, hurt, loss or sadness, there's always a tiny glimmer of hope amongst the pain, knowing that in a certain amount of time I will be feeling abundant again. This isn't to dismiss the strong and necessary emotions that we feel, but it's just to know that like the moon moves through it's phases, so do we and so do the emotions attached to difficult situations. Acknowledging this when things are tough is my "North Star" and that alone feels good. With just a few days left of 2020 lets watch our phases come and go, as they have and always will do.
